FROM THE COMMANDER:
IN SPITE OF THE HIGH PRICE OF GASOLINE AND SOME RAINY WEATHER, BOTH SEMO FAIR BEER STANDS DID WELL AGAIN THIS
YEAR. 'DOC' YALLALY REPORTED THAT THE BASEBALL BEER STAND WAS $800 OVER LAST YEAR. THE WASHER TOURNAMENT WAS ALSO SUCCESSFUL
AND WE THANK BOB WILLIAMS AND DOC FOR MANAGING THESE PROJECTS.
OUR SEMO FAIR LEGION RECRUITMENT BOOTH WAS BUSY SIGNING UP NEW MEMBERS AND SELLING TICKETS FOR A QUILT RAFFLE
TO BE DRAWN AT TUE CHRISTMAS DINNER. A HEARTFELT THANKS GO TO ALL OF THE LEGION AND AUXILIARY MEMBERS THAT WORKED THE BOOTH
DURING THE WEEK
IN LAST MONTHS NEWSLETFER I MENTIONED THAT WE WERE PLANNING A HAM AND BEAN DINNER FOR NOVEMBER. WE HAVE NOW SCHEDULED
IT FOR THURSDAY NOVEMBER 3RD AND WE ARE ASKING THAT YOU MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THIS DATE. WITH YOUR HELP WE THINK THE PROJECT
WILL PRODUCE BETWEEN $3000 AND $4000 TOWARD OUR BUILDING FUND DEBT. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ALL DAY EVENT AND VOLUNTEERS WILL
BE NEEDED. PLEASE CALL BILL BLAYLOCK AT 335-6242 TO OFFER YOUR HELP.
I KNOW MANY OF YOU WANT TO HELP THE VICTIMS OF THE CATASTROPHIC 'KATRINA'AND 'RITA' HURRICANES. ONE WAY IS THROUGH
THE AMERICAN LEGION NATIONAL EMERGENCY FUND WHICH PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR LEGIONNAIRES TO REBUILD THEIR HOMES AND
THEIR LIVES. OVER THE YEARS THE FUND HAS PROVIDED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN DIRECT ASSISTANCE TO LEC1ON FAMILY MEMBERS AND HELPED
LEGION POSTS,KEEPING MANY FROM CLOSING.
ALL CONTRIBUTIONS TO TUE FUND ARE DEPOSITED IN A SPECIAL ACCOUNT AND USED EXCLUSIVELY TO MEET OUR MEMBER’S

IS SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 28 THROUGH OCTOBER 30 AT THE CAPITAL PLAZA HOTEL IN JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI.

HONOR GUARD:
WE FORMED UP FOR TWO EVENTS THIS LAST MONTH. FIRST WAS THE FAIR PARADE ON SEPTEMBER 12 FROM CAPAHA PARK TO THE
FAIR GROUNDS. MELVIN AMELUNKE, BURT LEHMAN, BOB BUNN, DENNIS WOELTJE, AND JOHN POWERS PARTICIPATED. WE CARRIED TWO RIFLES
AND THREE FLAGS TO LEAD THE PARADE AGAIN.
ON SEPTEMBER 17 WE PARTICIPATED IN THE POW/MIA WALK FROM THE JACKSON CITY POOL TO THE VETERANS MONUMENT. DENNIS
WOELTJE, BURT LEHMAN, BOB BUNN, FLOYD SMITH, AND ROY RHODES CARRIED THE NATIONAL, LEGION, AND POW/WA FLAGS. SPECIAL AWARDS
FOR DEDICATION TO THE LEGION TO THE LEGION AND TO THE P0W/MIA’s GOES TO BOB BUNN (UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION), FLOYD
SMITH (KNEE PROBLEMS), AND ROY RHODES (BACK PAIN). ALL THREE SHOWED UP DESPITE HEALTH PROBLEMS AND MADE THE MARCH WITHOUT
COMPLAINT. THANK YOU ALL THREE FOR GOING 'BEYOND'
JR SHOOTERS:
LEON DICKERSON AND DENNIS WOELTJE REPORT THAT THE SHOOTERS ARE INCREASING IN NUMBERS NOW THAT SCHOOL IS BACK
IN SESSION. THEY ARE PLANNING ON HAVING A GOOD GROUP SOON AND THERE SHOULD ALSO BE SOME COMPETITION BEFORE THE YEAR IS OUT.
THEY MEET THE FIRST AND THIRD TUESDAYS AT THE LEGION HALL. YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN AGES 12-18 ARE ELIGIBLE AND THEY DO NOT HAVE
TO BE RELATED TO ALEGIONNAIRE.
